| Räikkonen's motor breaks on friday, so he is put back 10 positions on the starting grid, which means position 11 for him despite driving the best time in qualifying. So Montoya is on pole with Alonso behind him.
At the start Montoya is able to keep the lead, Alonso and both BARs follow. Räikkonen pits very late and is already on position 5. Because that's his only refueling pitstop, his chances for winning the race don's seem bad.
But that doesn't help him much because he has to change a tyre which destroys all his hopes for the win.
So Montoya wins in front of Alonso in an otherwise rather boring race. Alonso now has a 27 point-lead in the championship which can hardly be made up in 4 races.
Also in this race all started cars reached the finish, which didn't happen in Formula 1 since the Dutch grand prix in 1961.
