| At the start, both Renaults take the lead while Schumacher falls back to position 6. Polesitter Button falls back to position 3 and has to go to the pits, therefore 2 Renaults (Fisichella and Alonso) lead 2 McLaren (Montoya and Räikkonen).
All 4 are on a 2-stop strategy, after the first pitstop, the order remains unchanged.
Fisichella has to retire because of a hydraulics problem and Alonso shortly after that because of driving mistake. (His first retirement in this season)
Both McLaren lead with a large margin, however in a way Button is still deciding the race because he is causing a safety-car phase with his accident. Räikkonen pits early and takes the lead. Montoya is disqualified because he drives out of the pits during red light.
Räikkonen is able to reduce the Alonso's lead in the championship by 10 points. |
